It’s tough being Zoe Tapper right now. Not only is she one of the last remaining members of humanity in the BBC’s Survivors, condemned to a bleak dystopian future of building chicken runs and being leered at by Max Beesley, but in January she’ll be turning into a vampire in ITV’s new blood-sucking drama Demons, alongside Philip Glenister and Mackenzie Crook.

“She’s quite complicated,” says the 27-year-old actress of her character, Mina Harker. “The series is set in the present-day, so I’m supposed to be about 125 years old. I look pretty good for my age. I really vamped it up, plus I got to sink my fangs into Gareth from The Office’s neck, which was fun.”

Zoe Tapper as Nell GwynnHer first starring role came as comely orange-seller Nell Gwynn in period drama Stage Beauty, and since then she seems to have made a habit of getting trussed up in the name of thespianism, which means her role as Dr Anya Raczynski in Survivors came as something of a relief, not least on her respiratory system.

“It was nice not to be in a corset for once, although for some reason lots of men seem to remember me in the corsets,” she tells Arena. “Actually, I love them, they make you feel very feminine and really accentuate your curves. Of course, they’re bloody uncomfortable, particularly after lunch. If you gobble it too quickly, it gets stuck at the top of your ribcage and won’t go down…”
